I know it sounds crazy, shocking, even selfish, but the first step to solving ANY of our external problems (personal or worldly) is to accept the reality that as humans we have no control of anything except our thoughts. 

Given the external reality we are up against, most of us experience anxiety in levels we can't even fathom. In fact, the more the external polarities mount, so does our anxiety. it becomes normalized to the point you may not even recognize your anxiety. That was me, living in a state of anxiety for over my whole life until my mid 30's. Why did I do that? 

 

I was living a life chasing approval from the people I will never please as defined by an external definition of success.

Fact: You're never going to please the people or things you have been sacrificing your truth for.. 

Do you: 

  • Take disagreement personally or feel sad when someone doesn't approve of your choices?

  • Do things a certain way because you expect to receive praise or recognition in return? Relationships, social media, good deeds

  • Afraid to say 'no' to something that does not align to your truth? agreeing with something even when it doesn't align to your goals

  • Pay insincere compliments to gain approval?

So what changed? I surrendered and turned inward.
